AC Milan are keen on bringing in an experienced player to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic next season. La Gazzetta dello Sport has linked Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata with the open spot at Milan.
What’s the news?
Milan are currently preparing for a life without Zlatan. The veteran Swede is ending the final stages of his contract and it looks almost certain that he will not be offered a new contract for next season. To replace the forward, Milan have been looking for an alternative and possibly found that alternative in Madrid. The Spanish club has a big squad and Diego Simeone has enough forwards to choose from. Therefore, Morata could be an easy pick and a bargain signing this summer.
Milan are currently focusing on the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they will face city rivals Internazionale. They are also looking to finish in the top four in the Serie A, as the club wants to return to the Champions League next season as well. Once their two major goals have been reached for this season, the club will be looking ahead to next season. This means they will focus on talks with Ibrahimovic on his short-term future and could make a final decision on the forward future at Milan.
Ibrahimovic returned to Milan in 2021 after an adventure in the Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy. Since his return the veteran striker has been struggling with injuries, keeping him sidelined for the largest part of his second stint with the club. Nevertheless, Zlatan’s presence has had an effect on the entire Milan club. For example, the club won against the odds the Serie A title last season. Although the Swede’s contribution was not very large, he still had a lot of influence on the club’s results during the season.
