Arsenal are still planning to make a bid for Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo, Fabrizio Romano has revealed. The Gunners agreed terms with the Ecuadorian in January but then failed to agree a transfer fee with Brighton. The Italian transfer guru has now reported that Arsenal are ready to re-open the negotiations with Brighton in the summer.
The Ecuador international is having a stellar season at Brighton, featuring in 29 of the Seagulls 30 Premier League games. With everything to play for in the Premier League, Brighton are on the way to secure an historic European qualification under Roberto De Zerbi. Chelsea has also shown interest in signing Caicedo, but it is believed that the Blues have moved to other targets.
Arsenal, however, are still very much in the race to sign Caicedo. Speaking on the House of Champions podcast, Romano said: “Arsenal made a bid of £70m in January that was rejected. They really wanted the player and they agreed terms with the player, but [the transfer] didn’t happen. Let’s see if Arsenal will return with an official bid [this summer], but the interest is still there.”
The talented midfielder joined Brighton from Ecuadorian outfit Independiente del Valle back in February 2021 but was sent on loan to Belgian side Beerschot that summer. Due to an injury crisis Caicedo was called back to the club in the middle of the 2021/22 campaign. Caicedo has gone on to feature 45 times for the Seagulls in all competitions, firmly establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet.
