NewsAston Villa target determined to stay at FC Barcelona despite interest

Ferran Torres isn’t keen on a transfer away from FC Barcelona, despite several rumours linking him to a move to Aston Villa in recent weeks.

What is the news?

There are sales expected this summer at Barcelona as the club is looking to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations. A handful of first team players could be sold and Torres is one of these players. The former Manchester City forward was signed for 40 millioen euros last year but hasn’t convinced the club of his qualities enough to keep him of the transfer list. Aston Villa have been put forward as a possible destination but now it seems that Torres doesn’t want to leave Barcelona at all and he is ready to fight for his place at the club.

The backstory

With Barcelona expected to sell several players, Torres is hoping that selling Ansu Fati or Raphina could help himself rise in the pecking order at the club. Both Fati and Raphina have been linked with moves away from Barcelona and both players could end up in the Premier League with Manchester United and Newcastle United interested. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona are open to the idea of Torres staying if others leave as it may well be possible that Torres will be forced out of the club if the Spanish club needs the money from his transfer.
