Atletico Madrid has held initial talks with Marcus Thuram, according to L’Equipe.
- Atletico held talks with Thuram
- Signed for Gladbach in 2019
- Will leave on a free transfer
What’s the news?
The 25-year-old forward will be available on a free transfer this summer, making him a highly sought-after player in the transfer market. Several clubs, including Manchester United and Inter Milan, have already shown interest in Thuram. However, it appears that Atletico Madrid is set to secure the player. According to L’Equipe, the Spanish club has already had initial discussions with Thuram’s agent, and an agreement seems imminent.
Thuram has been playing for Borussia Monchengladbach since the summer of 2019, and in recent years, he has developed into a formidable Bundesliga attacker. He has played 133 matches for Gladbach so far and expressed his desire for a new challenge in his career earlier this season.
In the meantime, Atletico is in search of new attacking reinforcements. The club is expected to part ways with Joao Felix, who was on loan to Chelsea this year, and the future of Alvaro Morata remains uncertain. The Spanish striker has a contract until 2024 but has been loaned out multiple times by Atletico and is likely to look for a new club. It is anticipated that Thuram, along with Memphis Depay, will compete for the spot alongside Antoine Griezmann in Atletico’s frontline.
