NewsBarcelona and Real Madrid ready to battle for bargain wonderkid

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are ready to battle it out with each other in the hunt for one of Spain’s biggest wonderkids: Celta de Vigo midfielder Hugo Sotelo. According to journalist Oscar Mandez the two clubs have already approached the youngster’s management and are both keen on completing a transfer deal before the summer.

The 19-year-old midfielder made his debut for Celta in 2021 but since then has only managed to get one senior appearance. He has been spending most of his time with the reserve team, making 22 appearances this season. His performances with Celta’s B-team have alerted both Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially since the midfielder has a low release clause in his contract.

Sotelo’s current deal runs until the summer of 2025 and there are reports that Celta is keen on extending that deal, possibly to exclude the low release clause. At this point, interested clubs will have to pay 10 million euros to activate the release clause in Sotello’s contract, which would be considered as an absolute steal for the talented midfielder.
