Ilkay Gundogan is close to a transfer from Manchester City to FC Barcelona, writes 90min. The 32-year-old German midfielder has an expiring contract with the Premier League giant and has so far given no intention of extending his deal beyond this season. Barcelona are very interested in signing Gundogan, especially if the experienced playmaker can be signed on a free transfer.

It is suggested that Gundogan’s management has been in talks with Barcelona’s club management for several weeks about a possible deal for the summer of 2023. That does not alter the fact that it is not yet entirely certain that the midfielder will actually sign with the Catalonian club. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in signing Gundogan.

Recently, City manager Pep Guardiola was asked about the status of Gundogan’s contract. The Spaniard then acknowledgded that Gundogan is ‘free to go where he wants’. However, during that conversation, Guardiola also emphasized that Gundogan was already ‘in paradise for his way of playing’ and he said that the midfielder knew exactly how he felt about him, giving a strong hint that he hoped the midfielder would still go extend.
