Barcelona’s iconic midfielder has reportedly informed his club on Tuesday he will not be accepting a new contract beyond this season. It is believed that the club captain wants to leave the club before he goes too far past his prime and hopes to leave with the LaLiga title this summer. Reports from Marca suggest that Xavi has tried to convince his former teammate to stay on at the club, but current head coach wasn’t able to change Busquets’ mind.
What next for Busquets and Barcelona?
With five games to go in the season, Barcelona can take their time to make an announcement and give Busquets a proper goodby at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Barcelona are cruising towards the title in LaLiga, holding a 13 point lead over Atletico Madrid, who have moved into second place ahead of city rivals Real Madrid.
MLS rumours intensify
Over the past couple of months Busquets has been linked with clubs in the Major League Soccer, including Inter Miami. Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta even revealed that the Spanish midfielder would aspire a move to the United States. There have also been reports that Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr had made a huge contract offer to Busquets, but that the midfielder rejected the offer.

FC Barcelona have confirmed that Sergio Busquets will be leaving the club at the end of this season. The midfielder has played over 700 games for the club and has now decided to end his career at the Nou Camp following the expiration of his contract.
