FC Barcelona are ready to cash in on defender Clement Lenglet this summer, various reports from Spain have claimed.
- Lenglet set to leave Barcelona
- Defender is on loan at Spurs
- Barcelona put 20m price tag
What is the news?
FC Barcelona are looking to generate funds again this summer as the club needs to save about 200 million euros on player wages in order to make new signings. Lenglet, currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, is one of the names that has been linked with a move. It is believed that Barcelona have contacted Spurs and told the Premier League club they are able to sign Lenglet for a transfer fee between 20 and 25 million euros.
The backstory
Lenglet joined Barcelona four years ago from Sevilla. The left-footed defender started as a first team regular at the Spanish giants but lost his position on the team when Xavi took over from Ronald Koeman last season. Lenglet was benched and decided to move clubs during last summer’s transfer window. He went on loan to Spurs and in London Lenglet has made 31 appearances so far, scoring one goal.
What next?
At this point it is unclear if Tottenham are interested in signing Lenglet on a permanent deal. The club is currently in the proces of appointing a new manager and Lenglet’s future with the club will depend on the choices the new manager will make. If Spurs will decide to sign Lenglet, a move is not expected to be completed before July.
