Tottenham Hotspur will be forced to continue their search for a new manager after Arne Slot has decided to stay on at Feyenoord.
- Slot decides to stay with Feyenoord
- Blow for Spurs as Dutchman was a leading candidate
- Feyenoord closes the season on Sunday against Vitesse
What is the news?
Arne Slot has decided to stay with Feyenoord and not to continue contract negotiations with Tottenham. The Dutch champions spoke to Slot and his agent on Wednesday about his short-term future, after it became clear that the trainer was the most important candidate to take over at Spurs. Slot has now announced that he will stay with Feyenoord next season and is currently in talks to sign a new contract in Rotterdam.
Slot signed a multi-year contract in Rotterdam two seasons ago. In his first season he reached the final of the Conference League with his team and this season the coach managed to win the Eredivisie. His performances with Feyenoord earned him a lot of admirers. Earlier this season, Leeds United tried to appoint him after they sacked Jesse Marsh and Tottenham had Slot in mind as a new trainer for next season.
Slot and Feyenoord will soon start negotiations about a new contract. A new contract is interesting for both parties as Feyenoord can keep their coach beyond this season, while Slot will be able to implement a fixed release clause in his contract. This makes it easier for the coach to sign for another club in the future. This weekend Feyenoord will play their final league game of the season. The club from Rotterdam will host Vitesse in their own De Kuip.
