NewsCarlo Ancelotti angry with officials: 'Why didn't the VAR checked that?'

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti wasn’t happy with the officials after Real Madrid drew 1-1 against Manchester City in the first leg tie of the semi final in the Champions League.

What is the news?

Real Madrid earned themselves a deserved 1-0 lead after a stunning goal by Vinicius Junior. Manchester City then scored the equaliser in the second half and after that goal was scored Ancelotti was given a yellow card by the referee after he protested heavily. The Italian head coach was convinced the ball had crossed the sideline as he claimed he had seen proof. The VAR decided not to check the moment and Ancelotti had to accept the goal for Man City.

What did Ancelotti say after the game?

During his post-match interview Ancelotti was still angry with the decision: “The ball was off the pitch. Technology said it and I don’t understand why VAR didn’t check it. The referee didn’t pay attention to many things tonight.” Ancelotti, however, was happy enough with the draw in the end. “We have to play like this again next week. Our strategy was good, we weren’t worried when they had possession. Then the second half was completely different. We had the ball and created opportunities. We are very satisfied. ”

What next?

With a 1-1 draw against City in the first leg, Madrid still have all the chances to qualify for back-to-back Champions League finals. The Spanish club will first have to play Getafe at home on Saturday before they travel to Manchester to play the second leg on May 17th.
