Chelsea are having a disastrous season in the Premier League and the Blues are ready to forget all about the 2022-23 season and look ahead. To bring extra options to the squad, Chelsea are interested in signing Sadio Mane from Bayern Munich, should the Senegal forward become available. The forward joined Bayern last summer but his move has not gone according to plan.
Mane joined the German giants for 32 million euros last summer, which was then considered as an absolute coupe. The first few months were outstanding as Mane scored five goals in his first few games and Bayern looked to be unstoppable on their way to their 11th title in a row. Later Mane’s fortunes turned, starting with an injury which kept him from playing at the 2022 World Cup in November.
After he returned from injury in 2023, Bayern was left in some sort of rollercoaster. First Julian Nagelsmann was sacked, before Bayern was knocked out of the Champions League by Manchester City. In the first leg of the game against Man City, Mane got in a fight with teammate Leroy Sane and the former Liverpool forward then punched his teammate in the face. Mane was given a massive fine and was left out of the squad for one single game.
It could be possible that Bayern has already seen enough of Mane, who could now be returning to the Premier League next season. Football Insider report that Chelsea are interested in signing the 31-year-old but only if Bayern are prepared to let the forward leave for a respectable transfer fee. Due to their massive spending during the winter transfer window, Chelsea can’t afford to spend big again if they want to stay within the rules of financial fairplay.
