Angel Di Maria will be leaving Juventus as a free agent at the end of his contract this summer, various reports have claimed.

  • Di Maria set to leave Juventus
  • Talks on a new deal have broken down
  • MLS clubs show interest in forward

What is the news?

Di Maria is set to leave Juventus after just one single season and he could be leaving for the Major League Soccer this summer. Talks about a new contract in Turin have reportedly broke down and the Argentinian has decided to continue his career elsewhere. Several clubs from the MLS have already made contact with Di Maria’s agent and explored a possible move. There is also some interest from Saudi Arabia, but it is believed that Di Maria prefers a move to the United States instead.

The backstory

Di Maria joined Juventus last summer on a one-year contract following his departure at Paris Saint-Germain. His first few months weren’t too enjoyable for the Argentinian, following a red card against Monza in one of his first outings for Juventus. In the second half of the season Di Maria’s form improved dramatically but in recent weeks his form declined again. Fans have been unhappy with his current form and criticized the forward for his performances against Sevilla in the semi final of the Europa League.

What next?

Juventus are set to end the current season with a huge disappointment. The club has been given a ten point penalty by the Italian sports committee for allegedly blowing up player transfer values to cover their finances. The Old Lady dropped from second to seventh place in the Serie A and after a 4-1 defeat away at Empoli, Massimo Allegri’s men could be missing out on European football for next season.
