Borussia Dortmund have made a dramatic late contract offer to Jude Bellingham, reports German outlet BILD.

What is the news?

Dortmund has reportedly made Bellingham a last-minute bumper contract offer as they hope the talented midfielder would decide to extend his stay with the club beyond this season. According to the report, Dortmund would be prepared to make Bellingham the best paid player in the squad and in the club’s history. The midfielder, however, has set his sights on a move to Real Madrid and is expected to reject the offer made by Dortmund.

The backstory

Bellingham is in the final months of his stay at Dortmund. The English midfielder has developed into one of Europe’s leading midfielders in the Bundesliga and the European elite are interested in signing him for a record 120 million euro transfer fee. Bellingham has spoken with Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid in the past few months and in the end he has reportedly decided to sign a multi-year deal in Spain.

What next?

Bellingham is believed to be fully focused on finishing the season on a high with Dortmund. The club currently sit in second place in the Bundesliga and still have all the chances to claim the titel ahead of Bayern Munich. With three games to go, the gap between the two German giants is only a single point. Dortmund will finish the season with games against Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and FSV Mainz, whilst Bayern will face Schalke 04, RB Leipzig and FC Koln.
