Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has received threats on social media, claiming to kidnap his daughter. The Belgian, who plays for Royal Antwerp these days, shared the message he received on his own Instagram account.

Alderweireld received some hateful messages on Sunday on Instagram and shared an image of the threat. In the image you can see an anonymous user threatens his daughter and blames the defender for Belgian’s poor performances at the World Cup in Qatar. The Belgian defender decided to share the image on his own account with the following statement:Â “I can endure quite a bit, but threatening my family goes far beyond limits.”
The backstory
Alderweireld and his Belgian club Antwerp made a huge step towards the club’s first Belgian title since 1957 on Sunday by beating title rivals Racing Genk 2-1. The former Spurs defender managed to get on the score sheet by converting a penalty. Alderweireld joined Antwerp last summer after a short spell with Qatari club Al-Duhail and with ‘the Good Old’, Alderweireld is set to claim the title in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
