  • Man United show interest in Benfica star
  • Ten Hag desperately needs a new goalscorer
  • Club will have to break their own transfer record

What is the news?

Manchester United are still looking actively to sign a new striker this summer and the Red Devils have reportedly found their primary target in Portugal. According to Record, United are ready to open talks with Benfica over star striker Goncalo Ramos. The 21-year-old striker is considered as one of the leading talents in Europe, scoring 19 goals this season in 30 appearances for Benfica.

The backstory

Ramos is a product of Benfica’s youth academy and the youngster made his debut for the Lisbon club in 2020. He is now considered as their first choice striker and in 106 outings he has scored 41 goals. With a contract until the summer of 2026 Benfica is in the lead in terms of a transfer fee. Ramos has a 120 million release clause in his contract, but it is believed that Benfica are ready to accept bids from 110 million euros.

What more for United?

If the Red Devils want to land Ramos this summer they will have to break their own transfer record. In 2016 the twenty-time Premier League champions paid 105 million euros to bring back Paul Pogba from Juventus. Last summer they paid nearly 100 million euros for Brazilian winger Anthony, who joined from Ajax.

What next?

It will be interesting to see which forward United will be signing this summer. There have been several names linked with the club, including Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Kolo Muhani. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are looking to replace veteran striker Karim Benzema and also have interest in Ramos.
