NewsMan United preparing 55m offer on Chelsea star

Manchester United are currently preparing a 55 million transfer offer on Chelsea forward Mason Mount, the Daily Mail reports.

  • Man United lead the race for Mount
  • Forward’s contract will end in 2024
  • Mount set to miss season finale due to an injury

What is the news?

Mount is set to enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea and has made it clear he will not be signing a new contract any time soon. It is therefore expected that the England international will be leaving The Blues this summer. Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with Mount, but it seems Manchester United are currently in the lead. It is believed that the Red Devils are preparing a transfer offer worth around 55 million.

The backstory

Mount grew up in Chelsea’s youth academy and managed to break into the club’s first team after a few loan spells. In recent years, Mount has been one of the key players at Stamford Bridge, but under first Graham Potter and now caretaker Frank Lampard, Mount has not played much this season. With his contract expiring in 2024 and his decision not to sign a new contract, Chelsea will be forced to sell Mount next summer.

What next?

Chelsea will play two more games this season. The Blues are still in a poor position in the Premier League with a current twelfth place and can only finish eleventh if they win their last two games. The chance that Mount will still play for Chelsea seems small, the forward is currently recovering from an injury and is not expected to return until the end of May.
