- Man City keeping tabs on Xavi Simons
- Forward impresses with 16 goals in 32 games
- Barcelona and PSG also interested
What is the news?
The 20-year-old Dutch forward is considered as one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe at the moment and the list with admirers is rapidly growing. Simons has a long-term contract at PSV and it is expected that the Dutch club is working on a new multi-year contract. Despite that potential new deal, Man City are monitoring the situation of Simons ahead of the transfer summer and could be ready to step in if he would become available.
The backstory
Simons has been on the shortlist of many clubs for years after the youngster impressed for FC Barcelona as a youth player. After spending nine years at La Masia, Simons moved to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019. Last summer he signed for PSV on a free transfer and at the Eredivisie giants he has managed to develop his skills even further. In 32 games, Simons has scored an impressive 16 goals and registered nine assists.
What next?
A transfer for Simons is not expected this summer. The forward has been enjoying his time at Eindhoven and with a possible second position and Champions League football next season, Simons could opt to stay for at least another season. The forward – however – did switch agents this month and that has fueled the rumours that he might be working on a summer move. His former clubs FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked to Simons recently.
