Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli will be going head to head as the clubs battle for the signature of Luis Enrique.
- Luis Enrique leading candidate at 2 clubs
- Spaniard without club since December
- Enrique held talks with Chelsea & Spurs
What is the news?
Luis Enrique is a top candidate at both PSG and Napoli. The Spaniard is without an employer after he stepped down as national coach after the World Cup in Qatar last November. Various sources in Italy and France have now confirmed that Enrique is high on the wish list of both PSG and Napoli. Both clubs currently have a manager, but it is expected that they will end the contracts of Christophe Gaultier and Luciano Spalletti respectively.
The backstory
Enrique is a hot topic in the managerial market, as the Spaniard has been shortlisted for many different clubs. For example, he reportedly held talks with Chelsea, while he was also on the list at Tottenham Hotspur. He no longer seemed to be a candidate at Tottenham, but now that their main candidate Arne Slot has decided to stay at Feyenoord, there is a chance that the Londoners will return to Enrique.
What will happen next?
With all the domestic seasons in football ending in the next few weeks, it will be expected that PSG and Napoli will make a final decision on their current managers. Once a decision is made, it will be interesting to see if Enrique is indeed a leading candidate, or that the clubs look for other available managers. At PSG they are also considering a move for José Mourinho, while Napoli have interest in Atalanta’s Gianpiero Gasperini.
