Paris Saint-Germain have accelerated potential talks with Jose Mourinho to replace Christophe Gaultier next season, reveals RMC Sports.
What is the news?
PSG have made Mourinho their number one target to take charge at the club next season. The French club’s advisor Luis Campos has a good relationship with Mourinho and he feels that the Portuguese manager would be the ideal candidate to replace Gaultier and achieve the club’s long-term goals.
The backstory
It is widely expected that PSG will be saying their goodbye’s to Gaultier after the end of the season. The Parisians are having a disappointing season after being knocked out of the French Cup and Champions League early on. While they are on course to claim the Ligue 1 title, the club’s form this season has been very precarious. Meanwhile, Mourinho has been performing steady at AS Roma. Last year he won the Conference League and this season he has reached the semi-final of the Europa League, whilst being seventh in the Serie A. His contract with Roma runs until the summer of 2024.
What will happen next?
While it is not expected that PSG will announce a new head coach before the end of the season, it is believed that the club will initiate talks with Mourinho and his representatives in the coming weeks. Reports have claimed that Mourinho would be keen on joining PSG next season, as the Portuguese manager has the ambition to challenge for the Champions League title once again
