- Real Madrid want a new right-back
- Three targets added to shortlist
- Madrid working on next season
What is the news?
Real Madrid are looking to sign a new right-back this summer and the Spanish giants have marked three potential targets as they will be exploring their possibilities before making a move. The club both Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez available for the position, but are now looking for some fresh and particularly younger blood. El Debate has now marked Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, Chelsea’s Reece James and Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo as potential candidates to fill the position.
The backstory
Carvajal is in his thirties and is entering the final stages of his career. Whilst Madrid will keep the Spaniard on board, the club is seriously looking to sign new blood for the next couple of seasons. They are looking to invest serious money in a new right-back and Hakimi could be their first choice. However, the Moroccan international has a long-term contract at PSG, making him a very expensive option. Cancelo, however, could be available for a cut price as the Portuguese international is set to leave Man City after spending six months on loan at Bayern Munich.
What next?
Now that Madrid has been knocked out of the Champions League the club can look at next season. They have already secured a spot in next seasons tournament and do not have anything left to play for in the current season. With the expected transfer of Jude Bellingham on the cards, Madrid are expected to invest heavily in their defense as well.
