Tottenham Hotspur have joined the long list of clubs interested in Feyenoord striker and Mexican international Santiago Gimenez, 90min reports.
- Feyenoord striker on the radar of Spurs
- Londoners looking for package deal
- Mexican scored 23 goals this season
What is the news?
Tottenham have been linked to appoint Feyenoord’s star coach Arne Slot as their new manager for next season and the Londoners could also be bringing in one of the Dutchman’s star players. Spurs have been watching Feyenoord in recent weeks to get a good view of Slot’s capabilities and during their visits at the freshly crowned Eredivisie champions they were impressed with Gimenez. Spurs are not looking to make a move just yet, but could be looking for a package deal if they decide to appoint Slot as their new manager.
The backstory
Gimenez joined Feyenoord last summer and after a slow start at the Eredivisie giants, the striker managed to earn his breakout season in Europe. He has scored 15 goals this season in the Eredivisie and added another 8 goals in the Europa League. His performances for Feyenoord and his role in the title winning season has caught the interest of many teams across Europe, including Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, several clubs from Spain, Italy and Germany.
What next for Spurs?
First Spurs are ready to appoint a new manager before they will be completing any transfer deals. Meanwhile, Feyenoord are not looking to sell Gimenez after his first season in Rotterdam, but the Eredivisie club is aware that a big money offer from a big European competition would be difficult to reject. However, with a long-term contract for Gimenez, Feyenoord are still in the lead and could demand a hefty transfer fee for the Mexican.
