Tottenham Hotspur are ready to initiate talks with Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot to become their new manager.
- Spurs find their new manager
- Talks will start next week
- Spurs could offer three-year deal
What is the news?
Tottenham Hotspur appear to have found their ideal candidate for the vacant role of manager in Arne Slot. The Dutch coach has just won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord and is now considered as the leading candidate to take control at Tottenham this summer. The London club has been searching for a new manager since they sacked Antonio Conte earlier this year. Slot has been described as ‘the best coach in the world’ by former Brighton Hove and Albion forward Alireza Jahanbakhsh as he led Feyenoord to the final of the Conference League last season and the Dutch league title this season.
The backstory
After Spurs sacked Conte the club appointed a caretaker manager, who was then sacked within two months. Ryan Mason took over as the club’s second caretaker and it is expected that the former midfielder will be stepping down from the role againt this summer. Meanwhile Spurs had made a shortlist of potential new managers, including Julian Nagelsmann. The German was sacked by Bayern Munich in March and looked to be the ideal candidate. Nagelsmann, however, told Spurs he wasn’t ready to step in and is set for a time away from football. This left Slot and Sporting Portugal manager Ruben Amorim as candidates.
What next?
It now seems that Slot has moved into pole position for the vacant role and talks are set to take place within the next two weeks. Feyenoord wrapped up the title in the Eredivisie last week and has two matches left to play. It is expected that Slot will travel to London after the final game of this season next week. Talks will start with the Dutch coach and his agent and it is believed that an agreement would not have to take very long.
